Lp Convergence of the Immersed Boundary Method for Stationary Stokes Problems

چکیده
In this paper, we analyze the convergence of the immersed boundary (IB) method as applied to a static Stokes flow problem. Using estimates obtained in [5], we consider a problem in which a d-dimensional structure is immersed in n-dimension, and prove error estimates for both the pressure and the velocity field in the Lp(1 ≤ p ≤ ∞) norm. One interesting consequence of our analysis is that the asymptotic error rates in the L1 norm do not depend on either d or n and in the Lp (p > 1) norm they only depend on n − d. The resulting estimates are checked numerically for optimality.

Convergence Proof of the Velocity Field for a Stokes Flow Immersed Boundary Method
The immersed boundary (IB) method is a computational framework for problems involving the interaction of a fluid and immersed elastic structures. It is characterized by the use of a uniform Cartesian mesh for the fluid, a Lagrangian curvilinear mesh on the elastic material, and discrete delta functions for communication between the two grids. We consider a simple IB problem in a twodimensional ...
متن کاملOn convergence of the immersed boundary method for elliptic interface problems
Peskin’s Immersed Boundary (IB) method is one of the most popular numerical methods for many years and has been applied to problems in mathematical biology, fluid mechanics, material sciences, and many other areas. Peskin’s IB method is associated with discrete delta functions. It is believed that the IB method is first order accurate in the L∞ norm. But almost none rigorous proof could be foun...
متن کاملOn Approximate Stationary Radial Solutions for a Class of Boundary Value Problems Arising in Epitaxial Growth Theory
In this paper, we consider a non-self-adjoint, singular, nonlinear fourth order boundary value problem which arises in the theory of epitaxial growth. It is possible to reduce the fourth order equation to a singular boundary value problem of second order given by w''-1/r w'=w^2/(2r^2 )+1/2 λ r^2. The problem depends on the parameter λ and admits multiple solutions. Therefore, it is difficult to...
متن کاملA versatile sharp interface immersed boundary method for incompressible flows with complex boundaries
A sharp interface immersed boundary method for simulating incompressible viscous flow past three-dimensional immersed bodies is described. The method employs a multi-dimensional ghost-cell methodology to satisfy the boundary conditions on the immersed boundary and the method is designed to handle highly complex three-dimensional, stationary, moving and/or deforming bodies. The complex immersed ...
